What Is Solas?

Solas has a few meanings. If you looked it up in an Irish dictionary, here's what you'd find:

Solas (Sol-as) - light, brightness
Solas an lae (Sol-as un lay) daylight
Solas (Sol-as) - enlightenment
Sólás (So-lawss) - comfort, reassurance, consolation

Solas Family Resource Centre, on Main Street in Headford, County Galway, seeks to be a light to the community, combining all of the above definitions. We develop and offer services and support mechanisms for individuals and groups in an open, friendly, caring and confidential atmosphere.  From copying services to computer classes, rural transport to budgeting advice, and everything in between, you can trust Solas to bring enlightement to almost any situation.

John Middleton, Co-ordinator
John radiates a sense of calm that can put anyone at ease. This makes him particularly adept at his position as co-ordinator of Solas Family Resource Centre, where no two days are ever the same. John took up his position at Solas seven years ago. Before that, he lived and worked in Africa (Kenya, to be precise). What John likes the most about working at Solas are two things: The interaction with people and the wide variety of challenges. 'There's no such thing as routine here,' John says.
Maura Egan, Administrator
Maura's smile is what people look foward to when they come through the door at Solas. She has been Administrator for nearly eight years. Before that, she was an administrator at a therapy centre. She has an avid interest in health, wellness and nutrition and enjoys helping people address challenges that come up in their lives. Maura says what she loves most about her job at Solas is when 'somebody goes out the door feeling better than when they came in.'
